Open Field, Cherrie Yu, 2017, performance, 20 minutes, at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Open Field is a movement-based installation performance that came from a gut response to Sara Ahmed’s Queer
Phenomenology
.
The three parts of the work-- the live body, the projected body, and the material set up--interact with each other
systematicall and playfully. As my movements cut into the open space within the installation field, the figure in the
video also moves forward, but falling in and out of sync with the live body.
In this work the notion of “openness” comes into contestation. As the body moves through an “open” field, its  trajectory
andcapacities of movement are interactive with and confined by its surroundings and its own image.
